CHAPTER 23 Flashcards
Where is the HF antenna installed on the aircraft?
The HF antenna is installed behind the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer.
What communication system does the Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU) use for transmissions?
Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU) uses VHF 3 for data
transmission.
Three to five identical Audio Control Panels (ACPs) are fitted to the A320, how many radio station transmissions and receives can be made at anyone time?
From each ACP only one transmission can be made but all radio stations can be listened to at the same time (if selected).
What is the purpose of the muting circuit in each crew station?
A muting circuit is installed to avoid acoustic coupling (feedback) between the loudspeakers and the microphones. When a transmission is keyed by any push to talk switch, a ground signal is delivered to the two loudspeaker amplifiers.
What effect does the muting circuit in each crew station have on Flight Warning Computer (FWC) audio outputs?
This attenuating circuit is not operative with the Flight Warning Computer (FWC) audio outputs and the warnings volume can not be adjusted.
How is each aircraft individually addressed for SELCAL?
The SELCAL/CALL card has 7 inputs connected to the communication receiver SELCAL outputs. These inputs are permanently scanned, and when a SELCAL signal is present, a comparison is made with the code programmed on the SELCAL code panel.
How is a call from SELCAL displayed to the flight deck?
On the ACPs, a CALL light, corresponding to the communication channel used, flashes amber. At the same time, data is sent to the Flight Warning Computers (FWCs). The FWCs send an audio call buzzer to the loudspeakers.
When a ground crew call or cabin attendant call is made to the flight deck .
The call is passed through the SELCAL/CALL card and is processed and displayed in the same way.
What is the main brain of the SATCOM system?
The Satellite Data Unit (SDU) is the primary system of the SATCOM system. It does most of the data-handling, protocol, modulation/coding and demodulation/decoding functions of the Aircraft Earth Station (AES)
The CVR is automatically powered when what aircraft configurations are present?
1, In flight
2, On the ground with one engine or more in operation
3, On the ground during the first five minutes after powering up the aircraft electrical network
4, On the ground for five minutes after the second engine shutdown.
When is the erase function on the aircraft available?
Erase is only possible, aircraft on the ground Rand L main landing gear shock absorbers compressed and parking brake applied.
Within the CIDS system what is the main function of the 16 type A DEU?
Passenger signs, Cabin lights, Loudspeakers, Passenger call and Reading/Attendant call lights. Basically anything the pAssengers can use.
Within the CIDS system what is the main function of the 8 type B DEU?
Slide and door pressure system, Crew interphone system and attendant panels, EPSU, Various water systems and Lavatory smoke detectors. Basically anything the caBin crew can use.
How is the master CIDS director chosen for each flight?
DIR 1 is active and DIR 2 is in hot stand-by. DIR 2 receives and computes the same data as DIR 1 but its outputs are disabled when director1 is available.
How is the cabin system tested with CIDS director No2
CIDS director No1 CB pulled and the system test carried out on the MCDU.
What are the PA priority levels?
1, Flight compartment
2, Cabin attendant stations
3, Prerecorded announcement,
What would change the volume level of PA announcements to all passenger related loudspeakers?
The CIDS transmits the PA announcements all passenger related loudspeakers. When an engine is running, the PA volume is increased automatically by + 6 dB, and by + 4 dB in the event of cabin depressurization.
When jacking the aircraft it will be necessary to communicate between personnel at various points around the aircraft. Why shouldn’t you use the service interphone system for this?
With weight off wheels, the service interphone system is disabled due to the LGCIU logic of the system.
