Chapter 2.2 (page 28) Flashcards
Endocrine glands are stimulated to produce and secrete their hormones by 3 major types of stimuli:
Humoral Stimuli
Neural Stimuli
Hormonal Stimuli
How does negative feedback aid in regulate the hormonal levels?
As hormone levels rise, they affect the target organ and inhibit further hormone release.
As a result, blood levels of many hormones vary within a narrow range.
_______________ are responsible in affecting glands to produce hormones in direct response to changing blood levels of certain ions and nutrients.
Humoral Stimuli
Eg. Insulin released by pancreas in response to rising blood sugar levels.
This is where hormones are released as a result of stimulation of the endocrine gland by nerves.
Neural Stimuli
Eg. Sympathetic stimulation of the adrenal medulla during periods of stress.
This is where endorcrine glands release their hormones in response to hormones produced by other endocrine organs.
Hormonal Stimuli
Eg Tropic Hormones
