Antipsychotic SE that causes restless pacing, and rocking back and forth
What should you treat it with ?
Akasithisia
Treat with : beta blocker or benzodiazepines
Antipsychotic SE that occurs in pt. Who has taken the drug for > 1 year. Includes tongue rolling , chewing motion , involuntary movements.
Tardive dyskinesia
Rare antipsychotic SE that involves muscle rigidity, high fever , blood pressure fluctuations
How to treat it ?
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome. (NMS)
Treat it : immediately stop meds
Hypothermic blankets
Hydration
Antipsychotic SE involving facial grimacing, upward eye movements and muscle spasms
Acute dystonia
Name 3 atypical antipsychotics
Clozapine
Risperidone
Aripiprazole
What should you monitor while pt is on antipsychotic?
- WBC count
- vital signs [BP]
- watch client swallow pill
With Lithium ( bipolar disorder) what are you assessing ?
Fluid intake
Urine output
Electrolytes
