Chapter 2.1: Element Flashcards
Chemical properties
Characteristics that describe a substances ability to react chemically with other substances to form new products.
Metals
Elements that are typically hard, shiny, malleable or ductile and that are good conductors of heat and electricity.
Non-metals
Elements that are typically not shiny, malleable or ductile and that are poor conductors of heat and electricity. Non metals are usually gases or brittle solids at room temp.
Periodic Table
The periodic table is a chart that organizes the elements according to their physical and chemical properties. The periodic table states each elements name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mas and ion charges.
Atomic number
The atomic number is the number of protons and electrons in an atom
Atomic mass
The atomic mass is the mass of the atom of the element. It is alway’s written as a decimal, and is measured in the atomic mass unit (amu)
What are some patterns in the periodic table
The atomic numbers increase one by one Bv.nb.
