Chapter 21 Concepts - Coulomb's Law Flashcards
The universal rule about Electric Charge
Particles with the same sign of electrical charge repel each other and particles with opposite signs attract each other.
superconductor
perfect conductor; absolutely no hindrance for charges
Removal of negative charges process
Only conduction electrons with negative charges can move; positive ions are fixed in place.
An object becomes positively charged only through the removal of negative charges
*Newly negatively charged objects gain mass while positively charged ones lose mass
First Shell Theory
If negative charges were removed from a spherical metal shell, the theory states that the shell will either attract or repel an external charge as if all the shell’s excess charge were concentrated at its center
What is the elementary charge?
e=+/-1.602*10^-19 C
charge of an electron
-e
charge of a proton
+e
charge of neutron
