Chapter 21 Flashcards
R-Li, R-MgBR, LAH
incompatible with alcohols
Aldehyde
not compatible if epoxide is there
C-C bond forming strategies
-organometallic coupling
-rxn of Nu c with E c
-cant join two nuc or two e but you can reverse polarity
-Can use Mg if Br or can use PPh3
NaBH4
will only reduce aldehydes, ketones, imines but not much else
-will not reduce esters, amides, nitriles, carb acid
R-Li/R-MgBr
will react selectively at the c=o carbon
-will ignore other double bonds
R2CuLu
react slectively with the B-C of an alpha-B unsaturated c=o
H2/ Pd/c
selectively reduce c=c, ctripplec, aldehyde but not other c=o
Protecting groups
allow us to protect a functional
-protect, desrired, deprotect
group from an undesired rxn
-TMSCl or TBSCl
deprotecting use TBAF or H2O
Aldehyde and Ketone protection
-protect as an acetal
-deprotect with H3O
-TSOH, OHcOH
-makes it a cyclic ring
