The planning and design of the physical and structural relationships of work and the workplace.
WORK FLOW AND LABORATORY DESIGN
A group of laboratorians responsible for overseeing a work flow and laboratory design venture.
PROJECT DESIGN TEAM
A document prepared by the project design team…
FUNCTIONAL NARRATIVE DOCUMENT (FND)
The distance and physical structures (walls, halls, and so on) between two or more areas that must closely interact for the work to be completed.
SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS
Variations of floor plans and sketches that are to be used as a preliminary edition of the schematic design drawing.
BLOCK AND SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS
A matrix technique for illustrating and defining how each section or function interacts with other areas.
DEPARTMENT RELATIONSHIP MATRIX
A series of circles (or bubbles) that represent a function or area and depict the flow of information and work tasks by using lines and arrows to show direction and connections in the relationships.
BUBBLE DRAWINGS
Lifelike, built-to-scale replicas or color-coded blocks that represent people, counters, furniture, and instruments; can be moved around on a floor graph to display a variety of configurations and design options.
BUILDING MODELS
The description title given to the first attempt and draft of how the architects have interpreted the information provided them in the FND.
SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS
A preliminary floor plan or blueprint draft that includes construction details and layout patterns.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT DRAWINGS
The final blueprints that will be used for construction of the project.
WORKING DRAWINGS
A document that contains the working drawings and detailed information on the types of building material and construction techniques to be used, informally called the “spec book”.
