Using “a” with a direct object
When the direct object of a verb is a person use the preposition “a” before the person.
Exception: do not use the preposition “a” when using the verb “tener”
Conjugate the present tense of the verb “ir”
To go
Yo voy. Nosotros/as vamos
Tu’ vas. Vosotros/as vais
El/ella/usted va. Ellos/Ellas/ustedes. Van
Note difference in spelling:
Si’ and Si
Si’ = yes
Si. =. If
Conjugate the present tense of “querer”
To want
Yo quiero Nosotros/as queremos
Tu’ quieres Vosotros/as quere’is
E’l/ella/usted quiere Ellos/Ella’s/ustedes quieren
Subtle differences in use of:
Querer; quisiera; and me gustaria; (and amar)
Querer: to want
Can also mean “to love”. E.g. Te quiero. The verb “amar” is also “to love”, but in a romantic sense.
Quisiera: would like to
Me gustaria: would like
Este tele’fono no functional y este’ Tampico
