What was the Divine right of kings?
When the king had all power
What were the blue laws and who I forced them
Oliver Cromwell introduced the blue laws. The blue laws suggested you weren’t allowed to do anything sinful, this meant no celebrations, activities or sports (nothing fun)
What was the glorious revolution
It was when Mary and William of orange took the throne from James the 2
What was the restoration?
When the monarchy was restored after the civil war. The throne was given to Charles the 2.
What grand remonstrance
The document that would restrict the Kings power. Tried to get Charles the first to sign it.
What was the rump parliament
It was the half of the parliament that was left over in the civil war. The side against Charles the first left, and 60 members that were on his side stayed.

James 5 of Scotland James 1 of England (same guy) Charles 1 -civil war Charles 2 for short SHORT time (kicked him out) Oliver Cromwell (lord protector) -restoration Charles 2 was renamed king James 2 -abdicate Mary and William of Orange
How did the civil war start?
The civil war started with Charles the 1 figuring out half of the parliament was on his side and the other side wasn’t . He started playing the side against each other and later went with solders to attack the enemy side of the parliament. The parliament escaped by being forewarned by someone.

who was victorious in the English civil war?
The royalists won the first few minor battles and then the parliamentarians allied with the scots and they won the larger final battles to end the war. The final battle was called the battle Worcester!
How did Charles 1 “fundraise?”

- selling noble titles
Why was Cromwell especially brutal to the Irish?
They had many Catholics (he was Puritan)
They rebelled against the English in 1641
What was the commonwealth
Supposed to be a monarchy based on the people.
What was Richard Cromwells nickname?
(Temporarily lord protector)
“Tumble down dick”
What to the puritans was a witch definition and what did they do to them.
A witch was a different person who did things different or didn’t marry. Suggested different things.
Puritans killed these innocent woman (original sinners) for basically being different.
