Main organs
- nose
- mouth
- trachea
- bronchi
- bronchioles
- lungs
- thoracic muscles
- blood
Nose and mouth
Passes through into respiratory system. Nose has tiny hairs (cilia) which traps dust and prevents it from getting into the lungs
Trachea and bronchi
Air passes through trachea (windpipe) into the lungs via tubes called bronchi.
Lungs
Sponge like sacs in chest cavity made of millions of alveoli which allows air to pass through and is surrounded by capillaries where gaseous exchange takes place
Trachea
Air flows down and is reinforced by rings of cartilage and lined with cilia to trap particles
Bronchi
One bronchus goes from trachea into each lung. Mucous id produces to trap particles and the bronchi divide in to bronchioles
Alveoli
Tiny air filled sacs surrounded by capillaries. Thin wall so gases can cross between air sacs and capillaries for gaseous exchange. Many alveoli for increase surface area.
