Chapter 2- Stat Flashcards
variable
a characteristic of an individual that changes or varies from individual to individual
qualitative variable(categorical variables)
classify individuals into categories
quantitative variable
values that represent counts or measurements
discrete variable
can only take a finite number of possible values or countable number of possible values
continuous variable
can take infinite possible numbers of values in a given interval
nominal level of measurement
simplest level of measurement, applies to variables that can be described solely by names, labels, or categories
ordinal level of measurement
variables described with raking order scheme
interval level of measurement
are meaningful but ratios are not
ratio level of measurment
when both intervals and ratios are meaningful
