Chapter-2- Spreadsheet- Formula And Functions Flashcards

1
Q

What are the formulas and functions used for.

A

We use formulas for calculating and analysing different values that are given in a specific order. The formulas that are used in MS Excel should have an equal to sign. It is through this equal to sign that excel comes to know the number or the cell forms of formula. The mathematical rules are used for deciding the sequence of operations for these formulas. Functions are defined as ready to Use formulas that can be applied on the data that is present in the worksheet. On the data and the values also referred to as arguments some of the common functions that are used in MS Excel are-

  1. average
  2. Max
  3. Sum
  4. count

Q

What are cells and range references

A

We can identify a single cell or a group of cells using a special value that is called cell address. Cell address is also known as the Cell reference. The role number and the Kalam letter that intersects the cell location points to the cell address of that particular sell that we should keep in mind that we have to write the column let the first.

Q

List the different kinds of functions.

A

We have three categories in which functions of MS Excel are divided –

  1. the text functions
  2. The mathematical functions
  3. The statistical functions

Q

How to use formula explain

A

For using formulas follow the steps below –

  1. select the cells in which you want to apply the formula in.
  2. Enter the formula on the cells.
  3. after entering the formula press the enter key.
  4. the result of the formula will be displayed in the cell.
  5. the formula will be displayed in the formula bar.

Q

If the data is changed will the cell also change automaticaly?

A

If the data has changed on which the formula has been applied then the result in the cell will also change automatically.

Q

What is cancatenation?

A

We can use formulas to join two strings. The joining of two strings is known as concatenation.

Q

Mention the different mathematical operators used with formulas.

A
  1. Operations in the brackets are carried out first, after them any operation on exponents is evaluated.
  2. Multiplication and division operations have equal priority as that of the exponential operator. The order of multiplication or division is decided by the order of the occurrence of these operators. The operation that comes first will be carried out first.
  3. Addition and subtraction of the same priority after multiplication and division. The operation that comes first will be evaluated.

Q

List some errors displayed on the cell

A
# DIV/0! - The formula has an invalid operation that is division by a zero.
# VALUE - The formula has invalid data.
# N/A - The data is not available.

Q

What does the presence of ##### indicate?

A

The presence of #####

Indicates that the cell is not wide enough to display the result. The number of #s can also vary.

Q

What is an auto sum function?

A

To add the numbers present in the selected cells we use that to some function. We can also find the maximum value is average values etc. The auto sum function is present at two places .

  1. Under formulas tab in the functions library and
  2. In the editting group under the home tab
