What is EAR
Estimated average requirement.
The amount of a nutrient that is estimated to meet the needs of half of the people in a particular gender and life stage.
What is RDA
The recommended dietary allowances
Based on EARs, are recommendations calculated to meet the needs of nearly all healthy individuals (97% - 98%) Ina specific group.
What is AI
Adequate intakes
Estimate nutrient needs based on average intakes by healthy populations when there is insufficient scientific evidence to calculate an EAR and RDA
What are ULs
Tolerable upper intake levels
Provide a guid for a safe upper limit of intake
What are the energy recommendations of the DRIs?
EERs and AMDRs
What are EERs?
Estimated energy requirements
Provide a recommendations for energy intakes that will maintain body weight
What are AMDRs?
Acceptable macronutrient distribution ranges.
Recommend the proportions of energy intake that should come from carbs, protein and fat.
Why are nutrition recommendations made to the public?
Health promotion and disease prevention
