Chapter 2 - Motion in a Straight Line Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the difference between instantaneous and average?
A
Instantaneous is at a single point in time. This is often found using calculus.
The average is found for that of a longer period of time.
2
Q
What’s the difference between speed and velocity, position and displacement?
A
Speed is the magnitude of velocity and doesn’t have a direction, whereas velocity is a vector.
The position is a scalar, displacement is a vector quantity.
3
Q
How are x, v and a related in terms of t using calculus?
A
x = antidiff v(t) v = dx/dt v = antidiff a(t) a = dv/dt
