Explain the basic functioning sequence of a semi-automatic pistol
1) Loaded magazine inserted into the pistol and slide racked rearwards to chamber the first cartridge
2) Trigger is squeezed which allows the hammer to move forward, striking the firing pin which strikes the primer
3) Primer explodes and sends a flash through the flash hole into the case
4) The flash ignites the propellant which causes expanding gasses to push the bullet through and out the barrel
5) Pressure forces the slide rearwards which ejects the spent case and chambers the next cartridge when moving forwards
Explain the basic functioning sequence of an SLR
1) Loaded magazine inserted into the SLR and cocking handle racked rearwards to chamber the first cartridge
2) Trigger is squeezed which allows the hammer to move forward
3) Hammer strikes the firing pin
4) Pressure forces the moving parts rearwards
5) This ejects the spent case and chambers the next cartridge
Explain the basic functioning sequence of an MOR
1) Loaded magazine inserted into the MOR and
2) The bolt action is opened and pulled rearwards
3) The bolt action is then pushed forward and down to lock in place and to chamber the first cartridge
4) To chamber next cartridge, bolt action must be pulled up and rearwards
5) And then pushed forward and down again.
Thereafter, repeat for every shot
Explain the basic functioning sequence of a shotgun
1) Magazine tube filled with ammunition
2) Fore end release button must be held down
3) Fore end can be racked rearwards and forward
4) This chambers the first cartridge
5) Trigger is pulled which causes the firing pin to stroke the primer
Thereafter, repeat for every shot
What should someone do before/after giving/receiving a firearm?
Safety precaution
Explain the safety precaution for a semi-automatic pistol
1) Point the handgun in a safe direction
2) Keep finger off the trigger
3) Remove the magazine
4) Rack and lock the slide rearwards
5) Visually inspect the chamber and magazine well
6) Release the slide lock
7) If hammer fired - drop the hammer under control. If striker fired - dry shoot in a safe direction
8) Engage safety if applicable
Explain the safety precaution for an SLR
1) Point the SLR in a safe direction
2) Keep finger off the trigger
3) Remove the magazine
4) Rack and lock the cocking handle rearwards
5) Visually inspect the chamber and magazine well
6) Release the coking handle
7) Take a dry shot in a safe direction and engage safety if applicable
Explain the safety precaution for an MOR
1) Point the MOR in a safe direction
2) Keep finger off the trigger
3) Remove the magazine
4) Rack and lock the bolt action rearwards
5) Visually inspect the chamber and magazine well, thereafter, close the bolt
6) Take a dry shot in a safe direction and engage safety if applicable
Explain the safety precaution for a shotgun
1) Point the shotgun in a safe direction
2) Keep finger off the trigger
3) Press fore end release button and rack fore end rearwards
4) Visually inspect the chamber and magazine tube
5) Push fore end forwards
6) Take a dry shot in a safe direction and engage safety if applicable
Explain the function check for a semi-automatic pistol
1) Point the handgun in a safe direction
2) Rack slide rearwards to ensure hammer moves rearwards and stays in place
3) Safety engaged to ensure trigger is blocked or hammer drops in case of decocker
4) Safety catch disengaged to to ensure trigger and hammer function
5) Slide racked a few times to ensure it moves into battery
Explain the function check for an SLR
1) Point the SLR in a safe direction
2) Rack the cocking handle to ensure the action functions
3) Safety engaged to ensure trigger is blocked
4) Safety disengaged to ensure trigger and hammer function
5) Cocking handle racked a few times to ensure it moves into battery
Explain the function check for an MOR
1) Point the MOR in a safe direction
2) Open and close the bolt action to ensure it functions
3) Safety engaged to ensure trigger is blocked
4) Safety disengaged to ensure trigger function
5) Telescope checked to ensure reticle is in place
Explain the function check for a shotgun
1) Point the shotgun in a safe direction
2) Rack fore end rearwards but should stay in place until the fore end release button is pressed
3) Open and close the action to ensure function
4) Open and close the action slowly to ensure lifter function
5) Safety engaged to ensure trigger is blocked
6) Safety disengaged to ensure trigger and hammer function
Explain the four steps to draw a semi-automatic pistol safely
1) Place your hand on the handgun grip extending your trigger finger over the holster
2) Draw the firearm keeping your trigger finer extended
3) Bring the firearm up in front of your body and complete grip
4) Push firearm straight out aligning the sights with your eyes
Explain the six steps to conduct a rapid reload of a semi-automatic pistol
1) Bring the elbow of your shooting hand to your side keeping the firearm underneath eye level to ensure eye contact with the attack
2) Press magazine release button and allow magazine to fall away
3) As the magazine drops, your weak hand should reach for the next magazine
4) The ammunition in the magazine should be facing down and forward to the ground. The magazine should be supported by your weak hand palm with your index finger extending to the top of the magazine to help guide it accurately into the well
5) Once magazine is inserted, use your weak hand to tap the bottom of the magazine to ensure its in place
6) Handgun is now loaded and ready to fire
Explain the five steps to conduct a rapid reload of an SLR
1) Bring the SLR closer to your body keeping the SLR slightly tilted and underneath eye level to ensure eye contact with the attack
2) Press magazine release button with weak hand and allow magazine to fall away keeping the SLR slightly titled
3) As the magazine drops, your weak hand should reach for the next magazine
4) The ammunition in the magazine should be facing down and forward to the ground. The magazine should be supported by your weak hand while maintaining eye contact with attack
5) SLR is now loaded and ready to fire
Explain the four steps to conduct a rapid reload of a shotgun
1) Keep the shotgun pointed at the target and remove trigger finger
2) Use your weak hand to remove cartridges from belt or pouch without disrupting eye contact with attack
3) Weak hand must guide cartridges into the magazine tube while keeping the shotgun on target
4) Shotgun is now loaded and ready to fire
Explain the 6 steps to present a rifle slung over the strong shoulder with the muzzle upwards
1) Lean slightly forward while looking at the target
2) Reach with your weak hand under the right arm gripping the fore end
3) Roll the right shoulder forward to release the rifle past this point with your left hand
4) Bring the stock of rifle into your shoulder
5) Complete your grip
6) Disengage safety - rifle is ready
Explain the 5-6 steps to present a rifle slung over the weak shoulder with the muzzle downwards
1) Grip the fore end with your weak hand while looking at the target
2) Roll the rifle out the right by turning your weak hand inwards
3) Bring stock of the rifle into your shoulder with your weak hand
4) Complete your grip
5) Disengage safety - firearm is ready
