What is a contra-indication?
This is a reason why a service/treatment cannot be carried out.
Why is it important to check hair elasticity ?
It can affect the end result.
Style may not last.
It determines the tension that can be applied to the hair.
Why is it important to check hair porosity?
Porous hair may limit or prevent a chemical service.
Porous hair will absorb excessive moisture/chemicals.
Describe how you would identify porous hair.
Porous hair will feel rough as the cuticle scales are open or missing.
Describe how you would identify poor elasticity.
When stretched the hair will not return to it’s natural state; it will snap.
Describe hair density.
This is classed as thick (abundant), medium or coarse and relates to the amount of hair on the head.
Give an example of a growth pattern.
Nape whorl, cowlick, widow’s peak, double crown.
Describe the hair classification type 1 hair.
Very soft and can be difficult to hold curl.
Describe the hair classification type 2 hair.
Medium texture and can be frizzy.
Describe the hair classification type 3 hair.
Has a definate ‘s’ shape to the hair shaft.
Describe the hair classification type 4 hair.
Tightly coiled. Has more of a ‘z’ pattern.
