Chapter 2 Grammar Flashcards
Some adjectives stay the same from masculine to feminine:
dificile, facile, magnifique, jeune
Some adjectives add an -e to make them feminine:
fatigué(e), joli(e), vrai(e), fâché(e)
Often when we add an -e to the end of an adjective it changes the pronunciation:
amusant(e), français(e), grand(e), petit(e)
Adjectives ending with -x change to -se in the feminine:
heureux (heureuse), ennuyeux (ennuyeuse)
Adjectives that end in a nasal consonant (like “n”) either add -e or double the final consonant and add an -e:
américain(e), canadien(ne), bon(ne)
Sometimes you get total spelling changes:
inquiet (inquiète) gentil(le), actif (active), sportif (sportive)
To make an adjective plural, just add a -s unless it already ends with -s or -x:
sportif (sportifs), bon (bons), mauvais (mauvais), ennuyeux (ennuyeux)
The most important thing to remember is:
