Dopamine is abundant in the corpus striatum and is involved in what…
It is involved in forming habitual responses to stimuli
Three reasons people make unhealthy choices
Lack of core values
Procrastination
Preconditioned cultural beliefs, for example I cannot change because I am merely a product of my environment
Definition of Self efficacy
The belief in one’s own ability to perform a given task
Locus of control definition
The extent to which individuals believe they can influence the external environment
Internal locus of control
Individuals believe they have control over events in their life
External locus of control occurs when
External locus of control results when individuals do not believe their behavior will alter events in life, rather events happen by chance or for some other external reasons
Three major impediments to improving internal locus of control
Problems with competence, problems with confidence, problems with motivation.
The first step in addressing behavioral change is what
The first step in addressing behavioral changes to recognize that you indeed have a problem.
Trans theoretical model of behavior change
Trans theoretical Model illustrates six stages of change that usually occur in a successfully willed process of behavior change
Stage one of the trans theoretical model
Precontemplation:
defined as the status of not considering change or being unwilling to change. This includes denying having a problem.
Stage two of the trans theoretical model
Contemplation:
acknowledgment that a behavior change is needed in the next six months.
Stage III in the trans theoretical model
Preparation
Seriously considering and planning behavior change in the next six months. Initial steps are taking such as goalsetting and trying the new behavior.
Stage 4 the trans theoretical model of behavior change
Action
Following the specific guidelines set forth for that behavior and requiring the greatest commitment of time and energy.
Stage five of behavior change Trans theoretical model
Maintenance
The behavior changes continued for up to five years
Stage six of the trans theoretical model of behavior change
Termination or adoption
Maintaining the change for more than five years. The change is part of the individuals lifestyle.
Relapse defined
To slip into unhealthy behavior or to regress in the stages of the trans theoretical model. May occur at any level after the precontemplation stage.
Define consciousness raising
Obtaining information to make a better decision
What is a capital SMART goal
Specific, measurable, acceptable, realistic, time specific
