Chapter 2 Chemicals, Apparatus, And Unit Operations Of Analytical Chemistry Flashcards
What are the classifications of the chemicals for purity?
- Reagent Grade chemicals, conform to the minimum standards set forth by the ACS and are used whenever possible in analytical work.
- Primary standard reagents, are carefully analyzed by the supplier and the results are printed on the container label.
- 2 Reference standards, are complex substances that have been exhaustively analyzed.
- Special-Purpose reagent chemicals - that have been prepared for a specific application.
What is buoyancy error?
Is the weight error that develops when the object being weighed has a significantly different density than the masses. It will affect the density of the object being weighed differently from that of the standard masses.
What is tare?
is the mass of an empty sample container. Taring is the process of setting a balance of reading zero in the presence of the tare.
Which laboratory equipment is used for drying and storing solids?
Weighing bottles. These bottles have the cap style lit, mostly made of glass.
What is desiccator?
Is a devise for drying substances or objects by storing them to minimize the uptake of moisture.
What is parallax, and what causes it?
Is the apparent displacement of a liquid level or of a pointer as an observer changes position. Parallax occurs when an object is viewed from a position that is not at a right angle to the object.
List the typical pipers used in the laboratory.
- Volumetric pipet
- Mohr pipet
- Serelogical pipet
- Eppendorf micropipet
- Ostwald-Folin pipet
- Lambda pipet
