Autonomy
Lifelong process of maturity to independent (stand alone) and interdependence (stand by)
Trust vs. mistrust
Provide warmth, affection, and attention to baby= trust; if not=mistrust
Resiliency
Exposed to trauma; adopt to hardship
Autonomy vs. shame and doubt
Children without self control may feel shame and doubt
Initiative vs. guilt
Starts own activities
If allowed freedom=develop confidence
If not=can feel guilt and withdraw
Industry and inferiority
Failure to develop goals and sense of mastery can result in feelings of inferiority
self concept
Awareness of self (self worth, values) influenced by school, peers, and family
Increased understanding of one’s race and gender
Pubescent
Big physical, psychological, and sexual changes
Not treated as adults but expected to be mature
Often rebel and tests limits
Starts to establish own identity
