Chapter 2 Flashcards
Describe the force on a pendulum, and change in energy
a pendulum during its motion, causing it to accelerate such that its potential
energy is converted into kinetic energy. As the pendulum approaches its equilibrium position, its velocity increases
to a maximum before once again decreasing to zero.
What does it mean when the points of rotation on pulleys are not centered?
They are modified levers. Tension isn’t equal.
Purpose of ideal vs non ideal machines?
All machines reduce force required. But non ideal machines lose some energy used for work to friction, deformation etc, so you need more work.
how do inclined planes reduce force?
you have same work but more distance to apply force over. also, when you go at an angle, you need to counter gravity at an ANGLE, and at an angle gravity is reduced (ex sin60 of mg, the force of gravity, is reduced, because sin60 is .87)
