It closes the cuticle.
What effect does a mild alkaline have on the cuticle?
It opens the cuticle.

In shampoo
What does hydroscopic mean?
The ability of something to absorb moisture.
What does the porosity test check?
The condition of the cuticle
What does the elasticity test check?
The strength of the cortex.
What does hydrophilic mean?
Water loving
What does hydrophobic mean?
Water hating.
Which end of the surfactant is water loving and water hating?
The head is water loving and the tail is water hating. (remember diving into water head first)
