Chapter 2 Flashcards
Behavior
the portion of an organism’s interaction with its environment that is characterized by detectable displacement in space through time of some part of the organism and that results in a measurable change in a least one aspect of the environment
Functional response class
A group of two or more topographically different responses that have some effect on the environment usually producing a specific class of reinforcers.
Repertoire
all the behaviors a person can do. Also; a set of knowledge and skills a person has learned that are relevant to particular settings or tasks.
environment
everything except the moving parts of the organism involved in the behavior
Stimulus
change in the environment that affects an organism through its receptor cells.
Stimulus class
any group of stimuli sharing a certain characteristic.
Antecedent
stimulus that exist or occur prior to the behavior of interest.
consequence
stimulus change that follows a behavior of interest.
Respondent behavior
behavior that is elicited by antecedent stimuli
Respondent Conditioning
Stimuli can acquire the ability to elicit respondents i.e. Pavlov
Reinforcer
a stimulus change that increases the future frequency of behavior that immediately precedes it.
automaticity
behavior is modified b y its consequences irrespective of the person’s awareness
stimulus control
a situation in which the frequency, latency, duration, or amplitude of behavior is altered by the presence of absence of an antecedent stimulus.
three-term contingency
antecedent, behavior, consequence
The human receptor system
Vision Hearing Smell Taste Cutaneous sense Kinesthesis Vestibular sense Organic sense
Response
The action of an organisms receptor.
