Chapter 2 Flashcards
Removal of waste Products include
Urea which is the breakdown of proteins in our diet. And creatinine which is the end product of creatine metabolism, skeletal/muscle breakdown.
The kidney’s play a major role in maintaining an internal environment compatible with life or homeostasis by three main processes?
Remove regulate and Endocrine
The regulation of the kidneys include
Fluids which are the removal of excess.electrolytes balancing sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphate, and magnesium. And to include acid/base balance prevents metabolic acidosis.
Hormone production of the kidney includes
Erythropoietin or EPO which stimulates the bones to make red blood cells. Renin which regulates blood pressure. Calcitriol which is the active form of vitamin D, which helps maintain calcium for bones and for normal chemical balance in the body.
Where are the kiddies located what are they close to Size and what is the bodies total blood supply?
The kidneys are located behind the abdominal organs, just below the ribs. They are close to the size of a fist and weighs about 5 ounces. And the bodies total blood supply circulated through the kidneys is approximately 12 times for hour.
Four major components of the urinary track system are?
Two kidneys which form your own. Two ureters which carry yearn to the bladder. The bladder which stores urine. And urethra in which urine exits the body.
Blood wastewater enter through the?
Renal artery.
Blood without waste or excess water leave here through the?
Renal vein.
Excess water and toxic waste in the form of urine leaves here?
Via the ureter.
The functioning unit of the kidney is?
The nephron.
Three important hormones produced by the kidney are?
Production of renin. Formation of Erythropoietin. And stimulates conversion of vitamin D to its active form calcitriol (A hormone that enhances absorption of calcium from the intestine) .
Production of renin is?
Enzyme that controls blood pressure by affecting sodium and fluid volume and stimulates constriction of blood vessels.
Formation of Erythropoietin is?
Hormone that controls red blood cell production in the bone marrow.
Acute kidney failure means?
For the kidneys to fail suddenly.
Chronic kidney failure means?
For the kidneys to fail over time.
