Chapter 2 Flashcards
Symmetrical distribution
It is possible to draw a vertical line through the middle so the one side of the distribution is a mirror image of the other
Frequency distribution
Organized tabulation of the number of the individuals located in each category on the scale of measurement
Skewed distribution
The scores tend to pile up towards one end of the scale and taper off gradually at the other end
Tail
The section where the scores taper off in a distribution
Positively skewed
When the tail is on the right-hand side in a skewed distribution
Negatively skewed
If the tail points to the left of the skewed distribution
N represents what?
Number of raw scores. Can be found by adding up the frequency column
True or False:
An interval width should be used that yields about 10 intervals
True
True or false:
Intervals are listed in descending order, starting with the highest values at the top of the X column
True
True or false:
The established interval width should be relatively simple number, such as 2, 5, or 10.
True
True or False:
The value for N can be determined by counting the number of intervals in the X column
False
Histograms, modified histograms, and polygon graphs are used for what kind of scales.
Interval and ratio
Bar graphs are typically used for what kind of scales?
Nominal and ordinal
Which kind of graph is used for all 4 kinds of scales?
Population graphs
Variability
Range, diversity of scores on a graph
