Nutrient density - The relative amount of nutrients per amount of calories
Nutrient-Dense foods - Foods that provide the most nutrients for the least calories
What components must be included on food labels?
- statement of identity - common name
- the net contents of the package - the quantity of the food
- ingredient list
- the name and address of the food manufacturer, packer, or distributor
- Nutrition informaiton
What is the Percent Daily Value (%DV) on a food label and how can it be useful to consumers?
Tells you how much a serving of food contributes to your overall intake of the nutrients listed on the label
