Chapter 2 Flashcards
Network Implementation
Static Routing
A method of manually configuring routing in a network. It involves an administrator defining specific paths.
Dynamic Routing
It is method of router automatically learning and updating routes using routing protocols instead of manually configuring routes. It allows for automatic changes.
Tagging
It refers to the process of adding a header or tag to a data packet to identify certain information about it. This allows to segregate traffic over a period of time.
802.1Q Trucking
An IEEE standard that defines VLAN trunking on ethernet networks. It allows multiple VLANs to be carried over a single physical link between switches, router, or other network devices.
Maximum Transmission Unit
It is the largest packet size, in bytes, of a packet that can be sent over a network medium. MTU is an important factor in network permanence as it determines how much data is carried through a link.
Spanning Tree Protocol
By disabling redundant path, the protocol ensures only one active path between any two network devices. It is commonly used to prevents loops from starting on the MAC table.
Band Steering
It is usually used in dual-band routers and access points to optimize the distribution of devices across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
Access Point (AP)
It is networking device that extends a wired network by providing wireless connectivity to W–Fi enabled devices. It acts like a bridge for other devices to connect to a network.
