Chapter 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Lens
A
primary purpose of a lens is to focus an image
2
Q
Focal Length
A
A reference to magnification and angle of view.
The distance between an internal point in the lens & the film plain when set at infinity.
3
Q
Lens Speed
A
A reference to maximum aperture
Fast lens - opens wide (ex. f1.8)
Slow lens - doesn’t open wide (ex. f11)
4
Q
Normal Lens
A
- 50 mm focal length
- 47 degree angle of view
- produces images most like the human eye sees
- generally fast
5
Q
Wide (short) Lens
A
- 24 mm focal length
- 84 degree angle of view
- produces extended DOF
- capacity to distort
6
Q
Long Lens
A
- 100mm focal length
- 24 degree angle of view
- produces shallow DOF
- capacity to compress
7
Q
Plain of critical focus
A
The area where the image is most sharp.
Usually 1/3 of the way in
8
Q
Shallow DOF
A
Large aperture (f1.4), long lens, up close
9
Q
Extended DOF
A
Small aperture (f16), short lens, farther back
