Pitch
the highness or lowness of a sound. Low pitches vibrate slower. High pitches vibrate faster
Low Instruments
trombone, tuba, cello, double bass
High Instruments
flute, violin, soprano voice, trumpet
Frequency
is the scientific term for the rate of sound vibrations an instrument produces. Low pitches have low frequency and high pitches have high frequency
Amplitude
the scientific term for the level of strength of sound vibrations and the amount of energy they contain
Dynamics
the level of sound. How loud or soft the musical sound is
Piano, Mezzo Piano, Forte
soft, medium soft, loud
Tone Color or Timbre
the general quality of the sound. Every instrument has its own unique sound
Overtones
give an instrument its own sound and color. The more resonance an instrument has, the more overtones we hear. The flute has fewer overtones than the trumpet. The human voice has many colors such as bright, dark, rich, warm, and bell-like.
