Rhythm
arrangement of durations-long and short notes-in a particular melody or musical passage
Beats
provide the basic unit of measurement for time in music. The beat is what you clap or dance to.
Accent
giving emphasis to certain beats, either the strong beat or weak beat
Meter
Any recurring pattern of strong and weak beats
Measures
how we separate the recurring patterns or rhythms into an organized way
Bar Lines
the lines that separate the measures
Duple Meter
beats are grouped into two or four (yankee doodle)
Triple Meter
beats are grouped into three (star spangled banner)
Simple Meter
the beat is divided into 2 equal parts or pulses like in duple
Compound Meter
the beat is divided into 3 equal parts or pulses like in triple
Syncopation
when you move the accent around in order to stress the unaccented beats giving the emphasis to the weaker beat. Also happens when an accent is placed between beats one and two
Tempo
the term to describe the speed of the music or fast the beat is. It is the rate at which regular beats of the meter follow one another
Adagio, Andante, Moderato, Allegretto, Allegro, Presto
slow, slow but not too slow, moderate, fast but not too fast, fast, very fast
