Define Headline
Line on top of the story that identifies the main idea of the story
Define Lead
HOOK, that tells the reader what the story is about
Define a Summary Lead
summarizes the main points of the story and what happened.

Shorter lead, important info.
Define a Feature Lead
A lead that starts with a story or description about a person place or incident.
Define Nut Graph
A sentence or paragraph that states the focus
Define Lead quote
First quote that backs up the lead
Define Impact
How news affects readers
Define Attribution
Adds credibility to a story, Where did you get this info? Who told you? Is this true?
When do you NEED attribution?
- Controversial or Accusatory info
- Expresses Opinion

- Common Knowledge or on record
- Indisputable
- Background info already mentioned

Explain Context/Background role in a story
Anything a reader needs to know in order to understand, put the story in context what its about.
Define Elaboration
Supporting points related to the main issue, can be statements, quotes or more detail to explain what happened.
Example of Visuals in a story
Photographs, charts and other graphic illustrations.
Define Summary Blurb
A paragraph or sentence summarizing the story placed below the headline
Define Pull Quote
placed in larger type and used as a point of entry to entice the reader.
Define Facts or Highlight box role in a story
For reading at glance or providing key points in the story, can include dates in order of happening.
