Chapter 2 Flashcards
difference between correlational and experimental research
correlational- measure variables
experimental- manipulate independant variable and measure effects on dependent variable
Research Terminology
control/ experimental groups, blind studies, placebos, indpendant and dependant variables
describe sampling techniques
Clinical/case studies, naturalistic observation, surveys, archival research, longitudinal vs cross-sectional
identify reliability and validity
reliability- how consistent the results of assement are
validity- how well test actually measures what it was created to measure
difference between descriptive / inferintal stats
descriptive- characheristics of data set
inferintal- makeing predicton/ generalization about a larger data set
measures of central tendency and vairability
central tendency- shows center and middle of data set are
vairability- disperson among those values
statistically significant
degree to which a research outcome cannont attribute to operation of chance
Correlations and Correlation Coefficients
tells you if two things are related
Research methods
confidentiality, informed consent, deception
