Chapter 2 Flashcards
What is moral objectivism?
The theory that moral truths exist and they exist independently regardless of what individuals or societies think of them. They could also be called moral facts, and that fact must be absolute, having no exceptions.
What is cultural relativism?
A view that an action or belief can be decided right OR wrong depending on what their respective cultural moral norms are. If it’s normal in ones culture, it’s right. If it’s not normal in ones culture, it’s wrong.
What is subjective relativism?
A viewpoint that an action is right or wrong depending on if oneself approves of it. “That may be right for you, but it is not right for me.”
What is emotivism?
A viewpoint that moral remarks are neither true nor false but an expression of emotion.
