Book: Restricted all foreign trade to the port of Canton (trading season).

Book: Empress of Russia who greatly increased the territory of the empire (1729-1796).
Crimean War
Book: Conflict between the Russian and Ottoman Empires fought primarily in the Crimean Peninsula. To prevent Russian expansion, Britain and France sent troops to support the Ottomans.

Book: A propaganda move that glorified the Emperor and he became a symbol of Japanese power, but he still didn’t have power.

Book: Abortive attempt by army officers to take control of the Russian government upon the death of Tsar Alexander I in 1825.

Meiji Restoration
Book: The political program that followed the destruction of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1868, in which a collection of young leaders set Japan on the path of centralization, industrialization, and imperialism.

Book: Of or pertaining to the status, treatment, terms, etc., that are embodied in or conferred by a most-favored-nation clause.
