Caudillos
Book: Military rulers who emerged in new republics across Latin America.
Mine: Military rules who came in pacts across Latin America.

Book: The US was called this by the Latin Americans.
Mine: Latin Americans called US this because they were bullies.
Charles Darwin
Book: In 1859, he published his book on the origin of species by means of natural selection.
Mine: Published a book in 1859 about natural selection.
Porfirio Diaz
Book: A dictator who dominated Mexico, permitted foriegn companies to develop natural resources and had allowed landowners to buy much of the countries land from poor peasants.
Mine: He turned Mexico into a bad place including taking away land from the poor peasants and stopping the development of natural resources.
Dominion of Canada
Book: The loose confederation of Ontario(upper Canada), Quebec(lower Canada), Nove Scotia, and New Brunswich, created by the british North America Act in 1867.
Mine: Many parts of Canada were created by the British North America Act in 1867.
Federalist System
Book: Powers shared by the government and its subunits.
Mine: Instead of one group controlling everything, several groups do.
Sigmund Freud
Book: Austrian neurologist who originated psychoanalysis (1856-1939).
Mine: An Austrian who made psychoanalysis. - a method of explaining and treating mental and emotional problems by having the patient talk about dreams, feelings, memories, etc.
Isolationism
Book: A policy of nonparticipation in international economic and political relations.
Isolationist policy
Book: A policy of abstaining from an active role in international affairs or alliances, which characterized US foreign policy toward Europe during most of the 1800’s.
Andrew Jackson
Book: 7th president of the US; successfully defended New Orleans from the British in 1815; expanded the power of the presidency.
Benito Juarez
Book: Mexican national hero; brought liberal reforms to Mexico, including separation of church and state, land distribution to the poor, and an educational system for all of Mexico.
La Reforma
Book: A liberal reform movement in 19th-century Mexico, led by Benito Juarez.
Monroe Doctrine
Book: An American foreign policy opposing interference in the Western hemisphere from outside powers.

Book: Venezulean soldier who led Simon Bolivar’s cavalry force.
