Chapter 18 (Kinetics) Flashcards
What is the rate equation?
r = k [A]^a[B]^b
Define Rate of Reaction
The change in molar concentration of a substance in a set time.
What does the rate equation show?
The proportionality of the rate to the concentrations of all the reactants.
What factor changes the rate constant?
Temperature
What is meant by zero order?
The concentration of that substance has no effect on the rate of reaction.
What does order of reaction show?
The proportionality of the rate of reaction to the concentration of that reactants.
What is meant by first order?
The concentration is directly proportional to the rate.
What is meant by second order?
The concentration is exponential to the rate.
What is the rate determining step?
The slowest step with the highest activation energy and determines the overall rate of reaction.
What is the Arrhenius equation?
k = Ae (-Ea/RT)
What is the unit for rate?
mol dm^x s^x
