- Whig congress passed a law ending the independent treasury system with Tyler’s signature
- Clay drove through congress for a bill for a “Fiscal Bank”, which would establish a new Bank of the U.S. (Tyler vetoed this and made people upset)
- Whigs passed another bill a “Fiscal Corporation” (soon vetoed by Tyler)
How did Tyler’s Whig cabinet react with all the vetoing and acts against his party?
They expelled Tyler from the party, attempted to impeach him, they all resigned (except for Daniel Webster)

- Texans were outnumbered by the Mexicans so they were forced to make open negotiations with Britain and France as a kind of protective shield.

- Needed 2/3 vote for a treaty in Senate; arranged for annexation by a joint resolution (simple majority in both houses). Resolution passed in 1845
