Q

Why do Canadians pay higher taxes?

A

bc we have free health care, more generous social programs, past debts. plus we don’t want to give up budgets so we spend all leftovers so that next year it’s the same.
plus, there are more “special groups” that want a piece of the taxes that they wouldn’t have got if not part of the group. called rent seekers

Q

Sp what does the future entail for gov?

A

we now know more gov spending doesn’t mean more growth, bc higher taxes distort the incentives to save and invest, sending the economy into a downward spiral of higher costs and lower efficiency

A

bc ND and PP are public goods that everyone receives, even if they don’t pay. businesses want to make money, not give handouts.
