What are some problems associated with older surgery patients?
Greater incidence of chronic illness, greater incidence of malnutrition, more allergies, increased incidence of impaired self care abilities, INADEQUATE SUPPORT SYSTEM, decreased ability to withstand stress of surgery and anesthesia, increased risk for complications, increased fall risk.
What cardio issues would you report?
Abnormal BP, Abnormal HR, Chest Pain, Dyspnea, Tachypnea, pulse ox less than 94%
What are s/s of infection?
Fever, purulent sputum, dysuria or cloudy foul smelling urine, increased WBC count
What are some contraindications to surgery?
Increased PT or PTT, Hyper/Hypokalemia or if patient reports possibly being pregnant.
