Why is reproduction important?
It ensures the passing of genetic information from one generation to another.
What are the parts of the male reproductive system?
Sex glands, sperm duct, scrotum, urethra, testis/testes, penis
What is the function of the sex glands?
Secretes a fluid containing nutrients & enzymes
Provides sperms with energy to move
What is the function of the sperm duct?
Carries sperms from the testis to the urethra
What is the function of the scrotum?
A bag of skin that holds the testes outside the body
What are the functions of the urethra?
A tube which leads to the outside of the body which carries sperm and urine at different times
What is the function of the testes/testis?
Produces sperm and male sex hormones (testosterone)
What is the function of the penis?
Becomes erect when sexually excited
Sperms are ejaculate through here during sexual intercourse
What are the parts of the female reproductive system?
Oviduct, ovary, cervix, uterus, vagina
What is the function of the oviduct?
A muscular tube which pushes the egg along the oviduct towards the uterus
Site for fertilisation
What is the function of the ovary?
Produces eggs & female sex hormones
The ovaries take turns to produce an egg every month
