Chapter 15 Ideal Gases Flashcards
What are the 5 assumptions made when modelling gases as ideal gases?
The gas contains a very large number of atoms/molecules moving in random directions and with random speeds.
The atoms/molecules occupy a negligible volume compared to the volume of the container.
All collisions of atoms and molecules with each other are negligible compared to the time between collisions.
The collisions of atoms and molecules with each other and the container walls are perfectly elastic.
Electrostatic forces between atoms or molecules are negligible except during collisions.
What can we deduce from the pollen in water experiment?
there are particles smaller than pollen and they move in random directions and at random speeds.
