Developmental Crisis (Maturation)
Happens with normal growth and development (Graduating School)(Going to College) (We’re about to graduate to become nurses and adults)
Situational Crisis
A person enters a new situation without adequate coping skills. Ex. Obtaining job promotion, loss of pet, moving to a new city
Crisis
occurs when there is a perceived challenge or threat that overwhelms the capacity of the individual to cope effectively with the event. last no longer than 4 to 6 weeks.
Acute stress disorder
significantly distress or social functioning is impaired. Has dissociative symptoms and persistently re experiences the event. Happens up to 6 weeks after event.
Traumatic Crisis
earthquake, riot, war, kidnapping, rape, violent crime, hate crime
emotional reaction
Sobbing, crying, dry heaving ,completely shutting down
Physical Response
gut wrenching, fainting, LOC, shaking, tremors
Emotional Response
crying, sobbing
Social Response
isolate themselves injecting self to far into events.
Cognitive Response
can we remember the things we are doing. Are we oriented to time, place, and what is going on around them. Can cary for each person
Shock and Denial
Avoidance, Confusion, Fear, numbness, blame
Anger
Frustration, anxiety, irritation, embarrassment , shame
Depression and Detachment
Overwhelmed, lack of energy, helplessness
Dialogue and Bargaining
reaching out to others, desire to tell one’s story, struggle to find meaning for what has happened.
Acceptance
Exploring options, new plan in place
Return to meaningful life
Empowerment, security, self-esteem, meaning.
Uncomplicated Bereavement
Experienced by most. Painful, can still be disruptive but the person still live their life
Traumatic Grief
External Factors, Suddenness and lack of anticipation to the death. Violence, mutilation, destruction. Degrees of preventability or randomness.
Complicated Bereavement
Excessive bitterness, unexpected loss, stigmatized loss. prolonged mourning process can last 1-6 months.
Acute mourning stage of Grief
the individual has intense feelings , may socially withdraw, and identifies with the deceased.
Shock Stage of Grief
there is denial and disbelief.
Resolution Stage of Grief
Acceptance of loss, awareness of having grieved, a return to well-being, and an ability to recall the deceased without subjective pain
Paroxetine
SSRI Antidepressant, decrease anxiety and depression of a client who is experiencing crisis.
Lorazepam
Benzodiazepines, may be prescribed to decrease the anxiety of a client who is experiencing a crisis.
