Reasons people try drugs?

A
  1. The majority try drugs out of curiosity.
  2. Other adolescents begin using drugs as a means of rebellion, protest, and expression of dissatisfaction with traditional norms and values.
  3. Another reason for trying drugs is for fun or sensual pleasure.
  4. Another strong motive for trying drugs is a social pressure to be like friends or to be part of a social group.
    a. Research indicates that youths who use specific drugs almost invariably have friends who also use the same drugs.
  5. Drugs become a means of feeling more comfortable in social situations.
  6. There are those users whose primary motive for trying a drug is to gain self-awareness, increased awareness of others, more religious insight, or to become more creative.
  7. There are some youths who begin selling drugs at an early age, prior to taking drugs.
