Secularization thesis
religion will gradually lose its influence over various aspects of life
Revised secularization thesis
while religion may decline in some parts of the world, it won’t disappear altogether
Religiosity
refers to how important religion is to people
Religious pluralism
the diverse array of religions and religious beliefs in a given area
Sects
breaking away from churches because of disagreement about church doctrine
New religious movements
groups headed by charismatic leaders with a unique religious vision that are distinct from original religious movements
