Psychological Disorder
is when we have disturbances in thoughts, feelings and behaviors
Disturbances reflect some kind of biological, psychological or developmental dysfunction
looking for cause
Disturbances lead to distress or disability in ones life
phobias holding people back from there everyday life
Disturbances do not reflect expected or culturally approved responses to certain events
response needs to be culturally approved and if they are not it qualifies for a psychological disorder
psychopathology
is the subfield of psychology that studies psychological disorders

it takes a look at specific symptoms for each disorders, prevalence and treatments.
Comorbidity
co occurrence of two or more disorders
Supernatural Perspective
attributed to a force beyond scientific understanding
Biological Perspective
views psychological disorders as linked to biological reasons
Diathesis- Stress Model/Perspective
takes the biological and psychological factors to predict the likelihood of a disorder
Anxiety disorders
excessive and persistent fear and anxiety
Specific Phobia
experience a excessive and distressing fear of a specific object or situation
Classical Conditioning
a type of learning that happens unconsciously
Modeling
observer imitates a role model, or when a person produces a specific behavior’s (acting as a model) that may then be imitated
Verbal Transmisson
develop a phobia by listening to others
Social Anxiety Disorder
extreme and persistent fear or anxiety and avoidance of social situations
Panic Disorder
experience recurrent and unexpected panic attacks

is when you experience thoughts and urgers that are intrusive and unwanted

worried about a perceived flaw that is non existent or barley noticeable to other people

can’t get rid of personal possessions no matter the value or use

must be exposed to a traumatic experience, distressing memories and flashbacks

sever disturbances in mood and emotions
Major Depressive Disorder
intense and persistent sadness
Seasonal Pattern
person experience symptoms of depression during certain parts of the year

women experience depression during pregnancy
Bipolar disorder
mood states that alternate between depression and mania

strong genetic base for mood disorders
Cognitive
believe that depression is caused by negative thoughts and interpretation

Suicide
have at least one mental disorder 90 percent of the time
Schizophrenia
major disturbances and thoughts, perceptions, emotions and behaviors. Delusional and hallucination
Positive symptoms
are the presence of certain behavior (hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, disorganized or abnormal motor behavior)
Negative symptoms
absence of certain behaviors or emotions ( no expression)
Cause of schizophrenia
biologicals runs in family and environmental
Dissociate Disorders
a person becomes split off from there core sense of self
Dissociative Amnesia
a person is unable to recall personal information
Depersonalization/Derealization
have feelings of unreality or detachment from sense of self
Dissociative identity
induvial that exhibit two or more distinct personality’s
Antisocial Personality
a mental health condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others
Borderline Personality
unstable moods, behavior, and relationships.
ADHD
child shows a pattern of inattention or hyper active impulsive behavior
Attention deficit Adhd
can’t follow instruction, disorganized
Hyperactivity adhd
excessive movement, fidgeting
Autism Spectrum Disorder
is when a person shows a sign of disturbances in social interaction, communications and patterns of interest
