- Alienation: due to separation of self from natural world
- Existence: more important than essences

Normal Anxiety: proportionate to threat
Neurotic Anxiety: non proportionate to situation / stimuli… forms instrapsychic conflict

Deny potentialities: not taking responsibility, how they choose to act in situations, fail to accurately perceive needs, remain obvious to their dependence (environment)

- Sex: biological function
- Eros: desire for passion and emotion - love making
- Philia: friendship - no sexual
- Agape: non possessive devotion, unconditional love

- Umwelt: biological environment (sleep cycles)
- Mitwelt: interrelationships (experiences, meanings with others)
- Eigenwelt: unique presence in human being in self-awareness (consciousness)

Existential psychotherapy is de-emphasizes techniques: don’t present certain techniques, doesn’t tell us how to do it, just tells us vague goal.
