Chapter 14: Dental Cement Flashcards
Micromechanical retention formed between tooth substrate, resin-based cement, and restorative materials
Adhesive Dentistry
A thin layer placed on the floor and walls of the preparation to seal the tubules and minimize microleakage
Cavity varnish
A thin layer of material placed to protect the tooth from the components of dental materials and microleakage, to stimulate reparative dentin, or to act as a pulp capping
Low-strength base/liner
A thick layer of cement used to protect the tooth from chemical and thermal irritation
High-strength base/liner
Thick, putty-like, condensable; the material can be rolled into a ball or rope, suitable for use as a base
Secondary Consistency
A thick layer of cement used to replace missing tooth structure in a badly broken-down tooth and to act as support for a restoration material such as a crown
Buildup
Cementing two components together such as an indirect restoration cemented on or in a tooth, including inlays, crowns, bridges, veneers, orthodontic brackets and bands, and posts and pins
Luting
Less viscous, flowing easily; this material can be drawn out to a 1-inch string with a spatula lifted from the center of the mass, suitable for luting
Primary consistency
Lasting indefinitely
Permanent
Referring to materials expected to last from a day to a few weeks
Temporary/Provisional
Referring to materials expected to last from a few weeks to a year
Intermediate
Soothing; acting to relieve pain
Sedative
The bonding of dissimilar materials by the attractive forces of atoms or molecules
Adhesion
