Federal election campaign act (FECA)
Sets limits on the amount of money that presidential & vice presidential candidate or their families can contribute to their own campaign. Requires campaign commitis to report information on contributions of amount over $100. Established a system of federal financing for presidential candidates
Hard money
Campaign funds donated directly to candidates amounts are limited by federal election laws
Soft money
Unregulated campaign contributions by individuals groups or parties that promote general election activities but do not directly support individual candidates
What are the main purposes of the national conventions
Adopt a party platform nominating a presidential candidate, nominating a vice presidential candidate
