Robert E Lee sent JEB Stuart and Stonewall Jackson to prevent Pope and McClellan from Joining. They did this by attacking Pope.
JEB stuart robbed the rear while Jackson attacked them head on.

Robert E. Lee fought McClellan to a draw.
Fredericksburg, Virginia
Abe replaced McClellan with Ambrose Burnside lead an unsuccessful attack against Fredericksburg Virginia
Chancellorsville, Virginia
Hooker replaced Ambrose burnside and tried again at Fredericksburg

George Meade replaced Hooker (who lead the second attack on Fredericksburg/Chancellorsville)

They got sieged at Chattanooga under William Rosecrans, but Thomas took over and Grant conquered Braxton Bragg.
