Enlarged Thyroid
Lymphadenopathy
Enlargement of lymph nodes (>1cm) from infection, allergy, or neoplasm.
Nasolabial Folds
Creases extending from nose to corner of mouth
Normacephalic
Round symmetric skull, relative to body size and NORMAL
Palpebral Fissure
Openings between the eye lids
Vertigo
True rotational spinning in inner ear.
Cranial Nerve VII
Facial nerve, muscle function should be bilateral. Smile, puff out cheeks, everything should be symmetrical.
Cranial Nerve XI
Major neck muscles are the sternomastoid and the trapezius. Ask patient to shrug shoulders.
Cranial Nerve XII
Stick out tongue
Sternomastoid
Temporal artery. Lies superior to temporalis muscle.
Temporomandibular Joint
Below temporal artery, anterior to each ear.
Thyroid Gland
Important endocrine gland with a rich blood supply. Straddles the trachea in the middle of the neck.
Tragus
Closest ear feature to the rest of the body.
Trapezius Muscle
Muscle between shoulder and neck.
Lymph Node Examination Locations
Head, neck, arms, axillae, and inguinal region. Greatest supply is in the head and neck.
